Perspectives: A Bug's Eye View

One of the greatest things about photography is that you notice things in the world around you in a different way.

For this post, let's pretend we're all bugs in the yard.

Hiding under a leaf.

Burrowing in the warm moss or the tall grass.

And even hiding on the play set.

Never stop dreaming,
Gracie

Note: I like this perspective post and I think I'll make it a series.

Welcome Summer!

Yay! It's summer and most of my spring recitals are over! (save violin) I had four of them over the last 3 days and am proud to say that they went very well.

*We are now interrupting this program for a very special announcement. Gracie's loathed orchestra conductor will not be coming back next year, because he has been hired full-time somewhere else. She almost stood up and did a happy dance when it was announced during the concert yesterday.*

My younger sis, Kathleen (age nine), is at standardized testing today and it is very quiet at home. I normally wake up to the sound of her voice.

I finished Chains yesterday,

and I can't wait to start the sequel Forge that it sitting by my bed.Nevr

They are very sad books about slaves in the revolutionary war, but I can't seem to be able to put them down.

I recently did a photo shoot outside with nature, (my sister refuses over and over to participate) so be expecting a picture post soon.

Never stop dreaming,
Gracie

I open at the close

I know it's a Harry Potter thing, but I was reminded of this when I finished The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan about 15 minutes ago.

I was completely distraught since I'm pretty sure that's the last book in the series when I remembered what was engraved on the snitch.

"I open at the close" doesn't just mean that the snitch will open when Harry walks calmly into the face if death. But it applied to me when I close that book. I open a new one at the close of an old.

I guess if you wanted to go in depth you could say that it meant that when one door closes in life another opens, but for now I want to stay at the book I'm morning the ending of.

School

Oh, yes.... I'm not on spring break yet. Well at least not quite. My last day is Thursday and then it's off to Jekyll Island on Sunday for a science extravaganza with friends. (don't worry, I will have plenty of pics to share) I was just doing Latin *grown inwardly* It's not very fun but I am getting better.

Yesterday was the first school day of daylight times savings and it did not go well. Getting up for church on Sunday didn't faze me but I was about to fall asleep all of yesterday. I did get some school work done but that means I just have to work even harder today.

Can't wait till this comes out in one week!!!!!!

Never stop dreaming,
Gracie

Do Nothing Day

Let me make this clear, I have been wanting one of these for a looong time. School work has been bogging me down so, Mom promised me a day where I could just relax.

So far I have made muffins with my sister, finished Ruby Holler by Sharron Creech, and read some of Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. Needless to say, it has been wonderful and it's only 10:30!!!

We had a big storm last night. It's all anyone has talked about this morning! We were at a play half an hour away from our house but we didn't have any rain the whole way home!!! (Thank you God!)

I think it's time for some picture updates.
We've been climbing trees,

Digging around in the flowers,

Swinging,

Spinning,

Jumping with glee,

and marveling at all the flowers.

But in the end of the day, we smile. Dirty tongue and all.

Never stop dreaming,
Gracie

I don't know

Lately I've been feeling a lack of inspiration. School is pressing down on me like never before. Well, I guess that's what happens to a Classical student. My teacher, Mr. G (real name) is amazing(ly hard) We love him all the same though. :)

Last night I had dancing grits which is a cotillion thing. It was awesome!

The Jungle Book

Recently My sister Kathleen and I auditioned for Jungle Book The Musical with a homeschool drama group. We were over joyed to find out that Kathleen got Mowgli!!!! So she is the main little boy while I get to be Kaa the cunning snake. ssssssssssssssssss... It's lots of fun. So rehearsals started last week and we have two more weeks so memorize all of our lines and our character sketch is due Monday. (meaning, we have to write down who our character is, how we're going to portray him/her, a Bible verse that goes along with it...) The play is in May and we have practices once a week so this is going to be a big part of our second semester.

On a side note, I got a solo in a song Give Me Wings in chorus. :) I can't wait till our recital on Saturday.

P.S. We are reading The Jungle Book as a read-aloud for the next couple weeks and is really good so far.

Give me wings that I may fly to heights unseen,
Gracie sssssssss

The Out Takes

Today I got woken up by Mommy and stayed in bed for 15 more minutes. When o went down stairs I got myself some juice and promptly lied down on the couch while mommy made French toast. She doled out that it was ready and my younger sister Kathleen walks sleepily down the stairs. I barely ae any because he syrup was too sweet for my tummy. We prayed over the day and I went to look at carnagie music.
Explenation: we go to the fine arts summer academy or fasa every year. It is hosted by the Annie Moses band and they are playing at carnagie hall next weekend. Hey have invited some camp participants to be in the orchestra and chorus.

There is a section of the concert where there are smaller vocal ensembles from people at fasa. I haven't heard that I was in one so we are assuming I'm not. You can see how this would make me sad.

I have to go do school work now.

The Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

Tonight at my church we have a chrstmas pageant. The four year olds are shepherds, fives are wise people, first grade girls are angels, and first grade boys are prophets. Randomly chosen first graders are Mary and Joseph. The eighth graders are the lead people and tonight I am the great prophet Isaiah. Wishme luck!

Merry Christmas eve,
Isaiah (Gracie)

Marshmallow

In case you don't know, marshmallow is the name of my white miniature Schnauzer. One word that describes her utterly is obsodelutous. A made up adjective which here means, completely cute and totally obsessed with chasing balls, barking at squirrels, and licking my face in the morning.
Last week or so we decided to put her in a reindeer costume that she didn't seem t like so much. Oh well, she still looked really cute.
this is a pic of her when we first got her three years ago.

lastly, I have a very special picture that Claire drew for me.

May your Christmas Eve Eve be filled with balls and scritches on the ear,
Gracie

That christmas feeling

I think that this song perfectly decribes today. I know it's Phineas and ferb, but that doesn't mean I don't like it.

I can't believe that it's only one week till Christmas, the year has flown by so fast. The house looks beautiful with all of our decorations and everyone is in a good mood. (well almost everyone)

I'm working on O Come All Ye Faithful with my younger sister Kathleen. I'll play violin and she'll play mandolin. It sounds really nice.

Merry Christmas,
Gracie

Saturday Baking

Don't you just love the smell of fresh baked cranberry bread. My mom's been making it ever since I've remembered. So therefore, (I love old english) I decided to make it for youth group tomorrow for my snack turn. Marshmallow is snuggled up next to me trying to get the batter off the spoon while dad watches the Georgia, Kentucky game. My Dad is OBSESSED with college football. YA!! I hear him yell from the next room over. There must have been a touchdown , I think to myself. Ahhhhh I love Saturdays.

Bake endlessly,
Gracie
